Toronto Star:6.5 million Canadians lack a family doctor. The solution is already here

Canada is facing a healthcare crisis, with 6.5 million people lacking a family doctor, prompting senators to propose accelerating pathways for internationally trained physicians (ITPs) to practice. ITPs experience low residency match rates compared to Canadian graduates, despite passing standardized Canadian examinations, raising concerns about discrimination and underutilization of their skills. Expanding Practice Ready Assessments (PRAs) and residency spots and securing federal funding are crucial steps to integrate these qualified doctors into the healthcare system effectively.
